THE PULITZER-PRIZE WINNING NEW PLAY REINVENTING SHAKESPEARE’S HAMLET.
BY JAMES IJAMES
DIRECTED BY STEVIE WALKER-WEBB
Fat Ham, the deliciously funny, Pulitzer Prize-winning new play, makes its Atlanta debut at Alliance Theatre following its critically acclaimed Broadway run. Playwright James Ijames has reinvented Shakespeare's masterpiece, Hamlet, creating what The New York Times calls “a hilarious yet profound tragedy smothered in comedy.”
Juicy is a queer, Southern college kid, already grappling with some serious questions of identity, when the ghost of his father shows up at their backyard barbecue, demanding that Juicy avenge his murder. But here's the rub! Revenge doesn't come easy to Juicy, a sensitive and self-aware young Black man in search of his own happiness and liberation. From an uproarious family cookout emerges a compelling examination of love, loss, masculinity, pain and joy.
PRODUCED IN ASSOCIATION WITH HUNTINGTON THEATRE COMPANY AND FRONT PORCH ARTS COLLECTIVE.

AT THE WAKE OF A DEAD DRAG QUEEN
By Terry Guest
In rural Georgia, drag star Courtney Berringers (given name: Anthony Knighton) would like to welcome you to her wake. She has recently died from complications due to AIDS, you see. But make no mistake, this isn’t your grandma’s funeral. There will be no black frocks, no perfumed flowers, and definitely no crying. Tonight is a celebration.

MAGICAL ODYSSEY IN PLAY WHERE THE MOUNTAIN MEETS THE MOON WEAVES RICH FOLKLORE INTO CAPTIVATING ADVENTURE.
Young Minli lives with her parents near Fruitless Mountain, surviving on the meager fare they can produce. Inspired by the rich tales her father tells (and by magical goldfish), Minli determines she will find the Old Man of the Moon who, it is said, knows the secret of good fortune. On her quest she encounters royalty, dragons, and several more stories, from which she learns what true good fortune really is. Based on the 2010 Newbery Honors book, this “fantasy crossed with Chinese folklore,” is a beautifully-told Wizard of Oz riff with a huge heart.
Age recommendation: 5+. This play has a couple of small moments of peril. It is highly theatrical, and incorporates puppets, dance, masks, and more.
Run time: An hour and a half with a 15-minute intermission
